We're very excited about our innovative partnership between KIPP Wonder Academy and SouthSide Early Childhood Center! We provide an enriching, stimulating, and fun learning experience for four-year-old children across St. Louis. SouthSide Early Childhood Center is currently seeking program director candidates to join our dynamic pre-K teams. KIPP St. Louis is a growing network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools offering a choice to families and a college-preparatory education to children in St. Louis city. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst for education reform by establishing and supporting a world-class network of public schools that develop in all of our students the knowledge, skills, character, and pursuit of excellence necessary to succeed in high-quality high schools and colleges and the world beyond. KIPP St. Louis currently educates over 2,000 students and at full growth, will educate nearly 3,600 students and hundreds of alumni.

KIPP Wonder Academy opened in Summer 2019. Each year, we will grow a grade level until we are a PK-4 grade school. In the 2020-2021 school year, KIPP Wonder Academy opened beautifully renovated classrooms at 3740 Marine Avenue St. Louis, MO 63118 in the Marine Villa neighborhood in South St. Louis City. At KIPP Wonder Academy, it is our mission to ensure that every student leaves with a knowledge of self, curriculum, and the world around them. Currently, there are 4 preschool rooms at KIPP: Wonder Academy in partnership with SouthSide, serving a total of 80 children.

Early Intervention Specialist

The Early Intervention Specialist coordinates and collaborates with staff and teachers to provide early intervention support for SouthSide participating children and their families as well as to provide early childhood intervention consultation for teachers. The Early Intervention Specialist is a member of the Program Leadership Team and reports to the Preschool Director.

Essential Functions:

  • Establishes and maintains SouthSide’s Early Intervention Services for Preschool program goals. Monitors program quality feedback from parents and teaching staff and incorporates necessary design and revision changes.

  • Provides follow-up assessment, referral, or intervention as necessary per results from social-emotional screenings.

  • Interventions include modeling in classroom, working one on one with children

  • Carries case load of up to 10 children at a time

  • Monitors case load outcomes via Conscious Discipline rubric, ATL-REG and SEL categories of DRDP, and ASQ-SE

  • Assists teaching staff in and out of the classroom on Conscious Discipline techniques and supports.

  • Sets goals and follow up for classroom teachers based on the results of the Conscious Discipline Rubrics-that are completed quarterly.  

  • Communicates observation, progress and goals with parents/guardians, in conjunction with the Classroom Teacher.

  • Organizes and implements Conscious Discipline or other group or individual training as needed.   

  • Assists Early Intervention Coordinator, Mental Health Coordinator, Program Directors, and teaching staff to assess and develop behavior plans for children with behavioral and social-emotional challenges and recommendations for referrals.

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary Care Team to address needs of children on case load as well as any other Pre-K needs that arise.

  • Collaborates with Development Director to report grant outcomes.

  • Supports Pre-K classroom outside of interventions as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent with experience

  • Classroom teaching experience working with children with special needs, preferably in an early childhood setting with a diverse population. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development in all domains

  • Effectively interacts, works, and develops meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds

  • Experience in the identification and intervention for young children with developmental delays and/or behavioral concerns

  • Conscious Discipline knowledge preferred

  • Experience with supervising or coaching/mentoring peers preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must complete 18 clock hours of training a year related to early childhood education

Program Director

SouthSide Early Childhood Center is currently seeking program director candidates to join our team at our KIPP Wonder Academy site. We are seeking diverse candidates, particularly who identify as Black, Latinx, and/or candidates who are bilingual English/Spanish, English/Oromo, English/Amharic, English/Somali.

This position is part of the Pre-K Co-op Program, a partnership between K-12 public schools and early childhood centers serving the St. Louis region. We are committed to ensuring equitable access to high-quality pre-K.

The Program Director is responsible for establishing and maintaining a quality, comprehensive and accredited educational program that ensures school readiness for all SouthSide/KIPP Wonder children. The Program Director is also responsible for maintaining program performance, licensing and regulatory standards in compliance with SouthSide’s partner agencies, state and federal requirements. This position reports to SouthSide’s Executive Director and manages all teaching staff and substitutes at SouthSide’s location at KIPP Wonder Academy at 3740 Marine Ave.

Core Responsibilites

  • Establishes and maintains SouthSide’s educational program goals related to school readiness; oversees curriculum development and monitors program quality feedback from parents and teaching staff and incorporates necessary design and revision changes.

  • Ensures compliance with Missouri state licensing requirements; Health, Safety, and Sanitation; Head Start compliance and Missouri Accreditation compliance.

  • Ensures teachers are implementing all standards related to Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline.

  • Ensures that all teachers understand and implement the antibias education framework.

  • Supports and environment of ongoing professional development by identifying needs and matching resources. Creates professional development opportunities for teaching staff that ensures SouthSide implements best practices related to early childhood development.

  • Manages student enrollment and orientation in conjunction with KIPP team.

  • Plans for and implements monthly teacher meetings; participates and helps to coordinate weekly Program Leadership meeting; attends CARE Team meetings; meets with each teacher monthly.

  • Hiring & training new teachers as needed.

  • Compiles data for educational programs and sets programmatic goals based on end of year outcomes; presents outcomes to board and staff.

  • Monitors program budget; reviews monthly expense forms for staff; purchases program supplies and reconciles credit card monthly.

  • Maintains a positive, welcoming school climate for all; creates positive culture for communication between staff, parents and children.

  • Monitors time off requests, manages all scheduling, manages payroll for teaching staff.


qualifications/skills

  • B.S. in Education or related field. Must meet MO State Licensing requirements for Center Director. Master’s Degree in Education preferred.

  • Early childhood leadership and supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in racially, culturally, linguistically diverse settings.

  • A minimum of three years' experience managing a licensed and accredited Early Head Start or Head Start Program preferred .

  • Experience and expertise in Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline and Anti-bias Education frameworks required.

  • Experience with DRDP assessment system preferred.

  • Ability to properly assess and evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively with a team depending on the task.

  • Assembles, motivates, and holds teams accountable to achieve established goals within deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity.

  • Ability to multitask.
