We're very excited about our innovative partnership between KIPP Wonder Academy and SouthSide Early Childhood Center! We provide an enriching, stimulating, and fun learning experience for four-year-old children across St. Louis. SouthSide Early Childhood Center is currently seeking program director candidates to join our dynamic pre-K teams. We are looking for self-reflective, on-going learners who want to be a part of an innovative program. 

Currently hiring for assistant classroom TEACHER

Job Summary: Southside's Assistant Teachers are responsible for supporting the implementation of all classroom activities to foster the development of individual children, build strong relationships with families, and maintain compliance with licensing, Missouri Accreditation, and DESE. Reports Program Director. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Engages with children, ensures safety; instructs and supervises children in classroom activities, implements age-appropriate activities and learning opportunities. 

  • Understands and utilizes Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline and Antibias Education frameworks.   

  • Works with Lead Teacher to help with lesson planning and implement daily activities related to individual child goals. 

  • Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with parents and guardians 

  • Actively participates in meetings and committees such as All Teacher Meetings, CARE Team, and All Team Meetings as well as attending family/community building events. 

  • Maintains a clean, organized learning environment; sanitizes surfaces, equipment and materials 

  • Consistently positions self to frequently keep active supervision of all children and to help meet their personal needs.  

  • Must complete 18 clock hours of training a year related to early childhood education  

  • Flexibility and a positive outlook to each day. 

  • The desire to continuously learn and improve.  

  • Ethical behavior and commitment to hold confidential all information about students and teachers. 

  • Other duties as assigned 

Other Qualifications:  

  • Associate degree in early childhood education or related field  

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Learning Genie and Microsoft Teams. 

  • Pass an extensive background check and be fingerprinted. 

They must also meet certain physical requirements: 

  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds. 

  • Extensive climbing, walking, bending, stretching and sitting on the floor with children. 

  • Exposure to childhood illnesses and diseases.  

  • Exposure to varying outside temperatures (heat and cold).

KIPP Wonder Academy opened in Summer 2019. Each year, we will grow a grade level until we are a PK-4 grade school. In the 2020-2021 school year, KIPP Wonder Academy opened beautifully renovated classrooms at 3740 Marine Avenue St. Louis, MO 63118 in the Marine Villa neighborhood in South St. Louis City. Currently, there are 4 preschool rooms at KIPP: Wonder Academy in partnership with SouthSide, serving a total of 80 children.
